A Sustainability and ESG Report Writer Who Can Manage the Process from Brief to Publication
I work with sustainability, communications and leadership teams to turn extensive source material into coherent, credible sustainability reports.

Sustainability Report Writing Is a Collaborative Process
Writing a sustainability report often means consolidating a lot information across several departments. The challenge is in making everyone’s contributions consistently coherent.
As a sustainability report writer and consultant, I can work across your organisation to gather material, identify the strongest stories and establish how different sections fit together. I’ll help decide what material should be prioritised, where more detail is needed and how complex information should be communicated to an external audience.
I can also establish a practical process for developing the report, with agreed responsibilities, milestones and review stages.
A Sustainability Report Writer Who Becomes Part of Your Project Team
Sustainability and ESG reports involve people with different areas of expertise and responsibilities. I’m used to working between these groups and becoming an extension of the internal project team for the duration of the report. I work with organisations across energy, finance, professional services and technology, where reporting often involves input from multiple specialist teams.
Depending on the project, I might work with sustainability and ESG specialists, corporate communications teams, subject-matter experts, senior leadership and external consultants. I can interview contributors directly, work through technical source material and identify the information needed to develop each section.
I can take the lead on the editorial process or fit into an established reporting structure. My role can involve liaising directly with your designers or creative agency, reviewing content once it has been typeset and making final editorial adjustments ahead of publication.
From Source Material to a Coherent Sustainability Narrative
A sustainability report needs to accommodate a considerable amount of information without becoming a collection of disconnected updates.
As such, I’ll review your source material with the report as a whole in mind. This helps establish connections between strategy, activity and performance, creating a stronger narrative across different topics and business functions.
It also helps separate what happened during the reporting period from longer-term targets and commitments. Readers can see where the organisation is now, the progress it has made and what it plans to address next.
Sustainability and ESG Report Writing Services
Every sustainability reporting project starts at a different point. You may already have an established reporting structure and a substantial bank of source material. Or you may need support deciding how the report should be organised, what information needs to be gathered and how contributions from across the business will feed into it.
I can support you at the early stages from planning, editorial consultancy, content audits and source-material reviews. From there, I can develop the report structure and narrative, interview stakeholders and subject-matter experts, write the report and develop supporting case studies.
As the project progresses, I can manage drafts and feedback, coordinate stakeholder reviews and work directly with designers or creative agencies through production. Final editing and proofreading can then take place once the report has been laid out. The scope is agreed at the start of the project, giving you a defined process, timetable and set of deliverables.

How I Approach Sustainability Report Writing
There’s no single formula for how to write a sustainability report. The right process depends on the size of the organisation, the maturity of its reporting, the material available and the people who need to contribute. My sustainability report writing process typically covers six stages.
1. Scope and Planning
I start by establishing what the report needs to achieve, who will read it and what material already exists.
We’ll agree the scope of my involvement, identify the people who need to contribute and establish a realistic project timetable. I can then map out key milestones, draft stages and approval points so everyone knows how the project will progress.
2. Content Gathering
Next, I review the material available for the reporting period. This might include sustainability strategies, previous reports, policies, performance data, internal updates, case studies and contributions from individual teams.
Where information is missing or needs further context, I can interview relevant people across the organisation. This often provides valuable detail that isn’t immediately apparent from written source material.
3. Structure and Narrative
Once I have a clear view of the material, I can develop or refine the structure of the report. This stage establishes the hierarchy of information and identifies the main themes that connect different sections.
I’ll consider where detailed information belongs, which stories warrant greater prominence and where alternative formats could communicate information more efficiently.
4. Writing and Content Development
I then develop the report section by section, combining source material, interviews and data into a consistent narrative.
Contributions from different authors can be edited into a unified voice, and technical information can be developed for the intended audience without losing the detail that gives the report credibility.
I can also develop case studies and other editorial features that demonstrate sustainability activity through specific projects, initiatives and outcomes.
5. Review and Stakeholder Management
Large reports can involve several rounds of feedback from people across the organisation.
I can help structure this process, consolidate comments and manage revisions across successive drafts. Where reviewers provide conflicting feedback or new information, I can identify the implications and make the necessary changes across the document.
This creates a controlled editorial process and reduces the risk of individual sections moving in different directions as the report progresses.
6. Design and Finalisation
Once the copy is approved, I can work directly with your design team or external agency as the report moves into production.
I’ll review proofs, check that edits have been incorporated correctly and identify any content that needs adjusting for the layout. I can then complete a final editorial review before publication.

''Genuinely Aligned''
‘Jamie was a pleasure to work with. Despite a complex project, he quickly understood our business, our tone of voice, and the particularities of our different areas of work, requiring very little guidance from us. The report drafts were consistently accurate, well considered, and felt genuinely aligned with our brand. We really appreciated Jamie’s ability to get to grips with a complex subject matter and turn it into clear, engaging sustainability report.’
Sofia Scharrer, Cocoa Sustainability & Communications Coordinator, ECOM

''A Great Experience''
‘If you ‘re looking for a copywriter that respects the client’s assignment without compromising his own expertise as a writer, don’t look any further. We needed a copywriter to smoothen a voiceover text for a technical offshore client. It was a great experience working with Jamie and the Brand New Copy team. They can simplify complex, technical language, so that everybody understands. The message really came across clearly. They’re quick and it won’t cost you an arm and a leg. Last but not least, they’re friendly. Jamie knows what he’s doing, when it comes to writing for video.

We started working with him a few months ago as we needed more technical blog posts for our website, and he’s always taken the time to understand what we need and produce high-quality, well-written content on a variety of energy topics. You can count on him to meet deadlines and adapt to your writing and formatting guidelines. We would highly recommend Jamie for all your technical copywriting needs.’

Working With Your Sustainability and Communications Teams
You don’t need to hand me a completed brief and a folder of perfectly organised source material. For larger sustainability report writing projects, part of my role is helping establish what information is available, what still needs to be gathered and who needs to provide it.
I can work directly with the people who hold that information. That might mean discussing performance data with sustainability specialists, interviewing project leads for case studies, or checking technical detail with subject-matter experts.
Having one person overseeing the editorial development of the report creates continuity across these conversations. It also means your internal team has a central point of contact for the content as the project progresses.
How Much Does Sustainability and ESG Report Writing Cost?
Sustainability report writing projects typically start from £6,500, with larger and more involved reports quoted individually.
The cost depends on the length and scope of the report, how much source material already exists, the amount of research or interviewing required and the level of editorial consultancy involved.
I’ll also consider the number of contributors and approval stages, the project timetable and whether you need me to remain involved through design and final production. Once I understand the scope, I’ll provide a fixed project fee so you know the cost before work begins.
Sustainability Report Writing FAQs
What does a sustainability report writer do?
A sustainability report writer gathers, structures and develops information about an organisation’s environmental, social and governance activities into a coherent report. My role can extend beyond writing to include planning, content gathering, stakeholder interviews, editorial consultancy, project coordination, feedback management and collaboration with designers.
How do you write a sustainability report?
The process usually starts by defining the purpose and audience of the report, reviewing the available information and establishing a structure. Relevant data, activities and case studies are then gathered from across the organisation before the report is drafted and reviewed.
When should a sustainability report writer become involved?
A writer can become involved once your source material is ready, but earlier involvement can be useful for larger reports. Bringing me into the project during the planning stage means I can advise on structure, identify the information required from different contributors and establish an editorial timetable before drafting begins.
Can you work with our sustainability consultants?
Yes. I can work with sustainability and ESG consultants who are responsible for technical reporting, strategy, messaging frameworks or disclosure requirements. My focus can then be on the editorial side of the project: structuring information, developing the narrative, writing the report and managing the content through review and production.
Can you manage contributions from different teams?
Yes. Multi-contributor projects form a significant part of my report writing work. I can gather source material, interview contributors, edit internally written sections and manage feedback across different teams. This helps maintain a consistent editorial approach across the finished report.
Do you work with sustainability report designers?
Yes. I can work directly with your internal design team or external creative agency. I can advise where information might work better as a chart, graphic, case study or other visual feature, then review the report once it has been designed to make sure the copy works effectively within the final layout.
What’s the difference between a sustainability report writer and a sustainability report copywriter?
The terms are often used interchangeably. Sustainability report copywriting tends to suggest a greater focus on developing and refining the written content, whereas a sustainability report writer may have a wider role across the project. My work covers both. I write and edit the report itself, but can also provide editorial consultancy, help establish its structure, coordinate contributors and support the project through review, design and publication.
