A Social Value Report and Tone of Voice Guidelines for EMCOR UK
EMCOR UK is part of EMCOR Group, a Fortune-500 engineering and construction company based in Connecticut, USA.
I was asked by London brand and design agency, Designhouse, to write EMCOR UK’s Social Value Report, and to create a Tone of Voice document. The client provided source material, which had to be organised into a logical structure and re-written to demonstrate how the company was meeting its sustainability goals.
As this would be the first report of its kind published by the company, I carried out external research and drew inspiration from other social value reports across the sector. After an initial meeting with the client and Designhouse, we agreed a structure and a deadline for the project.
After presenting a first draft of the report, EMCOR UK provided feedback from across the organisation. I made all necessary adjustments and the report was signed off after a couple of rounds of edits.
I then proposed a structure for the Tone of Voice document. Drawing on the language, tone and style used in the Social Value Report, I provided a detailed breakdown of how EMCOR UK’s tone of voice should sound, and how it should come across in writing. As part of my research, I also produced a competitor analysis. After one round of edits, the document was approved and the guide is now used internally across the organisation.
