What Makes Good Manufacturing Copywriting?

‘Good manufacturing copy translates technical details into engaging narratives that appeal to your target audience. It should pay attention to the features of your products while communicating their benefits. Copywriting in the manufacturing industry is often dry. But it doesn’t have to be. By creating an emotional connection with your reader and establishing credibility, your copy has the power to improve your sales.’

Jamie Thomson, Brand New Copy

A Manufacturing Copywriter with All the Right Components

When faced with material shortages, transportation delays, and production interruptions, the last thing you need is an unreliable copywriter. I’ve been writing product descriptions, white papers, and websites for manufacturing, engineering, and construction companies since 2013, so I know a thing or two about resilience and trust.

As manufacturing becomes increasingly digitized, creating digital content that resonates with online audiences is essential. From SEO-optimized website copy to engaging case studies, I can help your manufacturing company navigate the digital landscape and reach your target markets effectively.

I have extensive experience writing about emerging technologies, sustainability and environmental responsibility, all of which can help position your company as an innovative, forward-thinking brand. By highlighting the strengths of your company, your values, products, and innovations, I can help differentiate your brand, attract customers, and drive sales.

The Services I Provide as a Manufacturing Copywriter

As your manufacturing copywriter, I’ll produce engaging copy that’s properly researched, factually accurate, and aligned to your brand’s values. Some of the manufacturing copywriting services I offer include:

My copywriting services have been used by a range of clients in the manufacturing sector, including Wuxi Lead Intelligent Equipment Co, Daventry Metal Products, the University of Glasgow, MetroStor, and Streetspace Group.

Website Copywriting, and ESG Statements for Wuxi Lead Intelligent Equipment Co.

As part of a brand refresh, I was hired to rewrite the Wuxi Lead Intelligent Equipment Co.’s website copy. This included refining the companies mission, values, and ambition statements, updating product descriptions, rewriting the Home page, and crafting environmental social governance statements.

Website Copywriting for Daventry Metal Products

DMP asked me to update specific sections of their recently redesigned website. I provided copy for the Home page, About page and various service pages. The client was very pleased with my work and the copy is now live on the DMP website.

2 Technical White Papers for the University of Glasgow

I was contacted by the Unveristy of Glasgow to write two white papers on two new technologies that the University had developed. As the technologies in question weren’t commercially available in other forms, I had to read a number of academic journals and research papers to familarise myself with the products.

A Case Study for Outdoor Storage Manufacturers MetroStor

MetroStor asked me to write a case study of one of their recent projects. I was required to take technical notes and turn them into an engaging study that highlighted how the company overcame obstacles to create innovative storage for their client.

A Case Study for Street Furniture Manufacturer Streetspace Group

Streetspace needed a copywriter that could take complex technical information and produce a readable case study to attract prospective clients. The case study had to draw out the benefits of the company’s approach and highlight how they overcame design obstacles.

My Process For Writing Manufacturing Copy

Of course, every project is different, and every manufacturing company has its unique needs. However, my copywriting process typically follows several key stages:

1. Understanding your brief

I’ll take the time to understand your objectives, target audience, brand voice, and key messages. This typically involves conducting interviews with key people within your company, and conducting external research into the wider manufacturing industry, your competitors, and your target market.

2. Messaging and ideation

Once I know what you want to achieve from the project, we can discuss ideas about the copy as part of an informal workshop session. This collaborative process could involve bouncing ideas around, exploring different angles, refining your messaging, and experimenting with the structure of the copy.

3, Drafting and writing

Armed with a clear direction, I’ll start drafting your copy, ensuring I meet all the requirement in the brief. This typically involves crafting engaging headlines, writing compelling body copy, and developing effective calls-to-action. I’ll pay attention to your preferred tone, style, and language, ensuring consistency with your brand’s voice and messaging.

4. Editing and revising

After and initial draft is complete, I’ll carefully review and revise the copy for clarity, coherence, and accuracy. I’ll continue to refine the language, structure, and flow of the copy, making necessary adjustments to enhance readability and impact.

5. Feedback and collaboration

Once you’ve provided internal feedback (and perhaps feedback from clients and stakeholders), I’ll take on board all comments, revisions and suggestions, ensuring the copy aligns with you vision and objectives. I’ll also ensure the final copy is proofread before approval and publication in your marketing materials.

How Much Does Manufacturing Copywriting Cost?

I believe in being as up-front as possible when it comes to pricing. My day rate is £500 and I provide a price per project, so you’ll know exactly how much the work will cost up front. Some of the factors that I consider when pricing for manufacturing copywriting include:

  • How much content is required for the project
  • The number of words required
  • How much research is involved
  • Whether tone of voice guidelines are required
  • Whether on-page SEO should be considered
  • How many revisions are needed
  • The project deadline
